The dealer from which I bought mine showed me that trick; mine reports
BMW Alpine5 ('95 E34 (540i manual)). He said that it indicates it's an
Alpine (really!?), model year '95. He pressed... (lesse if I can
remember) program and minus, I think, as the original poster
indicated.
