<e28> radiator help

My faithful 535 keeps chugging but tends to get a tad past 12 o'clock
when at the drivethrough window.  I believe that the radiator is
original.  Is the a procedure for cleaning out the radiator that will
not damage the various fragile aluminum and plastic of my radiator?  I
am nearly ready to buy a new one but would love to avoid that if a
special cleaning procedure is available.
