e36 moonroof troubles

Hi, I tried to open my moonroof today but it only opened half way and then
just stopped.  I closed it and then tried to use the tilt feature which
worked fine, except when I tried to close it it made a horrible clicking
sound.  From outside I closed it again and saw that the left half went down
and then the right hand side accompanied with that clicking sound.  Anyone
have any thoughts on what it could be?
