Fuel Injection conversion for '88 535i

I've got an 88 535i with motronic 1.0.  I'm in the process of 
converting the fuel injection to a sequential system.  I've run
into problems in that the motronic 1.0 does not have a camshaft 
sensor.  However, motronic 1.1 does have a cylinder #6 sensor which
would work for my FI system.  I need to know a little about the
cylinder sensor though.  Is it an inductive sensor similar to the
speed and crankshaft sensors?  Where is the sensor actually located? 
Is it in the distributor cap?  If it is, can I just get a cap for a
newer model 535i.  I guess that would work only if the new models used
the same engine and distributor.
