Hello BMW Experts! Last week I went up to Saugerties NY to contest
my laser-trap speeding ticket.
I think the best suggestion for this particular venue was from RICHARD
WELTY, who said don't bother the state troopers for all the transcripts and paper-
work, because if I did, they would show no mercy for me.
So I drove up for Wednesday night court, and brought a pad full of stupid
questions in case I went to 'trial'. The court was so packed that people were
forced to stand out in the freezing rain. Within five minutes of handing in my
paperwork, the ticketing officer brought me into a back room, and with no prompt-
ing offered me a plea of moving violation, two points, instead of my clocked four
point 82mph violation. We talked for a few minutes, and I told him that I didn't
think I was going over 72mph (hey! I wasn't under oath!). He confirmed that at
the time of the ticket I told him I thought I was going 70 (so watch what
you say).
The judge and court personnel were quite happy to get one case out of
the way (they did get $90.)! So folks, DO show up and contest, but be nice.
