Valentine 1 in E46

Anyone know if the Valentine 1 plug fits well in
the E46 lighter socket? I know in my E36 it fit so
poorly the detector basically wouldn't work unless
you held it in place (tough to drive). 

Also, anyone hard-wired a V1 in an E46 w/o
sunroof? Can it be done easily through the dome
light?  

Asking for a co-worker who's awaiting delivery of
an E46. TIA.
