wd40 vs orange on paint
As several persons have posted, WD40 is safe on any kind of paint. The gum
cutter is cleaning ("Stoddard") solvent, also used as charcoal lighter.
But it works much better than solvent alone because the oil and wax in it
keep the gum from re-sticking.
Someone also mentioned using products with orange oil; I would be VERY
CAREFUL (and test inside the trunk lid) before doing that. I had some soda
once in a plastic cup, and I tried squirting some oil from an orange peel
into it. It floated on the top and dissolved the plastic in a ring. Orange
oil is also used as a paint stripper.
It is counter-intuitive, but here the petroleum product is far more gentle
to paint than the biological one.
