bananas and BMWs

In the silly but serious file:  The US is considering tariffs of 100%
on certain goods exported from the EU because the EU has a trade
policy favoring banana imports from Carribean ex-colonies.  I'm not
sure whether automotive exports are to be included in these tariffs.

What's so funny about this?  Well, for one, the US exports no
bananas...  Basically, the government is using OUR money to protect
US-based marketing companies by forcing us to pay more of OUR money
for consumer goods.

What ever happened to the good old free-enterprise economy?
