Movit Brake Kit-Comments from the Owner (long)

Sorry about the misdirected e-mail before. Attached are some comments
from the President of Movit to a person inquiring about his brakes..thought
this might be of interest to folks considering upgrades for the spring.
Duane...Guido (Frensemeyer) is a person, not just some name we Italians
call each other in passing. Good thing I didn't say anything in that
e-mail that I'd regret.

German is Guido's native language so excuse the syntax. SD

>thank You very much for Your interest in our brake systems !
>Of course we offer a bi-turbo 993 brake conversion kit for Your car.>
>I will try to explain the advantages of the bi-turbo 993 brake system to
You :
>
>- the oversized pistons
>- the big pad area
>- the patented ventilation system of the discs
>- the stable structure of the calipers
>- the dust shields of the calipers
>
>To start form the beginning :
>
>If You want to modifiy your stock brake system, you want to have a brake
with extreme
>braking power, never-ending fading stability and pads and discs that don=B4=
t
wear. ( Not
>possible, but nearly )
>What you don't want is what You get with every "Race-Brake-System" .
Frequent replacement of the pads / rotors and rebuilding of the calipers.

>The Porsche bi-turbo 993 brake system was designed to stop a heavy street
car on the
>track AND on the track with as little as possible wear.
>To achieve the strongest braking power the calipers are designed with an
extreme stable
>casting structure, bolted together with four M12 grade 12.9 bolts, fitted
with the biggest
>pistons and dust shields to prevent an frequent rebuild caused by leaking
pistons that
>have no dust shields. You need dust shield if You drive the car on the
street or on
>Ralley Courses. Most racing calipers we tested in former times have a very
light casting
>structure and are bolted together with max. M8 / M10 bolts. Unsprung
weight is the reason.
>Also, very few racing calipers have dust shields.
>One more important fact is the use of the largest pad area. The Porsche
bi-turbo 993
>brake uses the biggest pads of any 4-piston caliper ( 75.5cm=B2 against 62.=
5
cm=B2 of most
>Brembo, AP, Alcon, Willwood calipers ) .
>The advantage of the big pad area is not only the higher braking force but
also the
>bigger area of the disc where the heat is being transferred to. The disc
is forced more
>equally and therefore does not get that hot. Less pad wear is achieved.

>Fading stability is gained by using a disc with an patented ventilation
system. This
>system generates a surface where the air can come and take away the heat
which is nearly twice as big as the surface from any other Brembo, AP,
Willwood or Alcon disc.
>We tested so many discs in the past and all the big ( 14" ) Brembo, AP ,
Alcon discs

>were not half as fade resistant as the 993 bi-turbo disc.
>The discs of course lasts much longer than any other discs because they
don=B4t get as
>hot.

>The compound the discs are made out of is also important. Porsche spent
Millions of
>Marks to test every possible compound and find the best solution for both,
long-lasting
>street use and track (ab-)use. All race brake discs use much Silizium
which reduces the fading stability but also reduces the unsprung weight a
little ( most important thing on a race car ) .

>The next thing to make a brake perfect are the holes in the discs. To
guarantee the same
>braking force under rainy conditions and dry conditions, holes need to be
in the discs.
>During braking in wet weather there is water vapor generated between the
disc and
>the pad. This vapor cannot be removed without holes and loss of braking
power is the
>case. ALL brembo, willwood, AP & Alcon brake discs are cross-drilled if
ordered. The
>manufacturer supplies the disc with the surface as ordered, plain, slotted
or cross
>drilled.
>Crossdrilled discs will crack to the outer edge very fast and have to be
relaced then.
>The holes of the bi-turbo disc are cast-in when the discs is produced. The
Porsche disc
>uses not 8 or 10 mm but 5 mm holes which are cast 12 mm away from the
outer edge. They will never crack to the outside.

>The problem with all our customers we had in former times was the
following : nearly all
>of them ordered a race brake system but drove it 90% on the street. Every
weekend they
>went to track events and had to replace the rotors after that. The cost
for a brembo /
>AP discs 330 x 28 is approx. DM 600.00 here in Germany.
>Then they also had to replace the pads since they were glazed due to the
missing
>temperature during street use. Cost approx. DM 400.00 And this every two
months.
>The replacement cost for a Porsche bi-turbo 993 disc for our customers is
DM 370.00 /
>piece and DM 180.00 / set of pads. Since they don=B4t get that hot they las=
t
much longer.

>We have many M3E36 customers who use their first set of rotors and pads (
Pagid Orange
>RS 4-4 or the new Black ceramic RS7 ) for more than six month with a track
event nearly
>every weekend. They are extremely satisfied.
>Since this is a very popular brake system for all Porsche race cars ( even
the 380 mm /
>15" GT1 brake uses the same pad shape ) there is a wide selsction of pads
from many
>manufacturers ( Pagid, PFC, Ferodo, Carbo-Pad, ATE... ) which is not
available for any
>brembo / AP / Alcon, Willwod system.
>With Brembo, you are forced to buy the rotors directly through them or=
 their
>retailers and you don't have the choice of pads from different=
 manufacturers.
>
>So all together we can guarantee that this is the best brake setup for any
car
>that is driven on the street and on the track.
>
>Our kits are complete bolt-on kits unless stated otherwise. The
installation is an easy 2-4h job. All our kits are designed to fit perfect,
each bracket is a piece of art.
>With every kit comes a complete state-of-the-art stainless steel / teflon
brake line kit
>for front and rear which is T=DCV approved.

>
>I will copy our distributor for the US, Steve D=B4Gerolamo NJ onto this mai=

>request to quote the current prices to You.

>Please let me know what size & brand wheels are on Your car so I can make
sure the kit
>fits under them.
