Steering Racks revisited

Group,
A few fellow E30 M3 drivers and myself are investigating putting the Z3
steering rack into an E30 M3. Does anyone know if the Z3 rack is similar to
the E36 racks? Due to the help of Zionsville Motorsport we know we can put an
E36 steering rack in an E30, and if the Z3 is similar to the E36 racks it
should go in as well. Their standard E30 swap makes a 20% improvement in a
standard E30 according to their website directions. This would not be true for
an E30 M3 which already does have a quicker ratio than a standard E30. But if
the Z3 rack is quicker yet than the E36 M3, and is similar in configuration it
may also be able to be adapted into the E30 body giving E30 M3s an even
quicker ratio than present and would be outstanding for SOLO 2.
If this quicker ratio in the Z3 is derived from the use of a quicker steering
knuckle geometry and not a function of a quicker rack, then all this is for
naught.
Maybe some of you who are BMW Master Technicians and have experience with all
three models may have some input to assist us. Unfortunatly none of us have
access to having all three or even two of the different cars to compare side
by side.
The main questions:
A) Does anyone know if the Z3's rack configuration is similar to an E36?
B) Does anyone know if the Z3's quicker steering is function of a quicker rack
or different steering knuckle geometry?
FWIW, if the Z3 rack is really quicker, and is also similar to an E36 rack,
this swap should be a slam dunk for you E36 guys.
Thanks in advance for any help
