ABS

Mike,

For the sake of argument, let's say that your experience with ABS systems
is with an entirely different solution than that used by BMW (and others).
Then maybe your position is defensible.

However, in this case it is not. The rotating part of the BMW system looks
like a square cut gear. As the high points of the ring pass the sensor, as
you noted a square wave or synusoid wave is produced. However, the
amplitude and consistency of the signal can indeed by altered by filings
sticking to the ring. The ferrous material can shunt two of the high points
and low and behold a gap in the order and the system sees an apparent
"change in frequency" and the light is lit.

P.S. 'Nother word of advice. When you argue with the Shark, make sure you
know what you are talking about or at the very least do it in a manner
which is open minded.
