E28 M5 Engine into E34 525i Touring

Sorry I don't still have Anand Shah's e-mail address, but I thought I'd just
throw my .02 in on this topic.

The Bavarian Professionals transplant put an E34 M5 engine, drivetrain,
brakes, etc., in an E34 525i Touring. In California, there are smog control
issues that might make an E28-M5-engine-into-an-E34-Touring a bit more
difficult. The CARB (CA Air Resources Board) requires that the engine
management and smog control systems be the later of the two, engine or
chassis. So for this conversion to be CA legal, it would require E34 M5
control systems and smog hardware. I don't personally know how the
E28 and E34 M5 systems differed, this would require some research. Of
course, if the conversion is to be licensed somewhere else, Anand, you
would have to research the applicable smog laws to see if the
conversion would be feasible.

It would, of course, make one awsome wagon!
