<E28> Auto transmission issues, maybe

Got a question for all those E28 gurus on the list (there must be a few of
you, at least). Basically, I know that the 528e transmissions - even the
'88 ones - have a reputation for failing at exactly 120K miles, if not
sooner. Well, I've got 126K on the clock, and I'm starting to see things
that make we worry. Like sometimes (very rarely) I'll step on the gas and
it'll feel almost like the rear wheels are spinning, but the car won't
walk, shimmy, or exhibit any of the other symptoms - but the engine isn't
revving freely, either.

So I guess I'm asking a few things. Is the car likely to make it through
an upstate NY winter without significant tranny problems? Is it worth it
to try and find a good used tranny or should I just give up and try to buy
a new car, if the issues turn out to be real and not imagined? Is there
any chance this is a semi-normal reponse of the transmission to the cold?

Thanks for bearing with my paranoia. My last car died suddenly and
without warning from transmission problems, and I loved it dearly and
hated giving it away. I'd like to avoid having that happen again.
