what you saw was supposedly the last (or was it the 50,000th? i have 
heard both rumors) E36 M3 given to one police precint somewhere in 
Germany...another BMW police car is the E34 M5 that BMW gave to the 
South Carolina State Police back when BMW got the OK to build a factory 
there (i think they have since given it back to BMW)...this isn't 
counting the states that have bought BMW motorcycles (California comes 
to mind)
