David,
I tried putting winter wipers on my '87 325 and had a disaster. They stuck
in place when the windshield was just a little dry and the motor kept
trying to push them. The real problem that I had, strangely at the same
time, was that the wiper switch went bad and wouldn't shut off the wipers
and then they would get stuck on the windshield. I would have to pull the
wiper fuse to shut them off. What ended up happening was that the wiper
motor died.
The bit about the wiper switch doesn't do you any good. My advice is not
to use the winter wiper blades. Even after I put a new motor in and
replaced the switch, winter wipers still aren't that easy to push on a
somewhat dry windshield. I took them off in fear of burning another motor.
The motor is a pain to replace, really. Not something I would want to do
often.
I live in Cleveland, where we are getting bombed with snow recently and the
regular wipers are working fine.
I don't know if there is some kind of adjustment in the arm of the wiper to
make the winter wipers work better, but I haven't had any luck. Good luck.
