E36 Heater Valve Problem.

I have a 93 325is and I recently started to have trouble with the 
heat. It blows hot air, however, not as hot as it should be. I think
that 
the heater valve needs to be replaced. Has anyone out there attempted to 
replace this valve? Should I replace it myself of go to a professional?
If anybody has any warnings or special instructions please let me know.
