double clutch reason...makes sense to me

The purpose of double clutching is two-fold:
First it removes the thrust of the engine/driveline (depending if you're
going up/down) from the tiny synchro ring as it's doing it's job, which is
to get two pieces spinning (selector sleeve, and gear) at about a thousand
rpm different speed, to exactly the same speed in .001 second.
Free-floating, the synchro can easily do this, but with the thrust of the
engine, or weight of the driveline, it severely increases the workload.
Second it reduces the risk of drive force tire breaking loose on the
pavement during shifting, which could give you an interesting panoramic
view of the scenery in the direction you just came from.
