Car Stereo Any Good?

Fry's Electronics is running an ad for a Panasonic combination package
(Model PKG-R115) for $299 which includes:

An in-dash AM/FM/Cassette receiver with 4x25 watts and a detatchable
face.

An 8-disc CD changer.

I don't expect this to be a super-high fidelity stereo for only $299,
but if any of you have any experience with this combination, I'd
appreciate the answers to these questions:

Will the head unit fit in my E30 dash? (Without taking a chain saw to
the interior to make it fit, that is.)

Does it use a cable connection to send the CD signal to the head unit,
or does it dump the CD output into the radio antenna?

Any problems making this work in an E30?

Any reason why I shouldn't buy it?

At the moment I'm stuck with the factory stereo (not the high end unit,
but the ergonomic nightmare with the "magic finger" control - if you've
had one of these, you know what I mean). I have to take half the dash
apart anyway, to replace the broken rear defroster switch, so I may as
well do something else while I'm in there, like the stereo.

As always, TIA for any help with this.
