Re: bmw-digest V9 #724

In a message dated 98-12-19 00:05:26 EST, you write:

<< <E30> eta or i? >>
Where does it make power and torque? If it was originally an "e" with a
transplanted "i" engine I would think that things would be sorta screwy with
the tach given that the "i" engine revved so much more willingly than the "e"
(the "e" made 121 HP @ 4800 RPM and 170 ft-lb of torque @ 3200 RPM vs 168 HP @
5800 RPM and 164 ft-lb of torque @ 4300 RPM for the "i").
If the power seems to drop off over 5000 RPM you have an "e", if it pulls hard
almost to 6000, you have an "i"
- -or-
...put on your plastic nose and glasses and go test dirve a used e or i and
you will know right away if your car feels the same or different.
My 2 cents...
