Dinan vs. Options

Hi,

In my opinion Dinan has a few benefits and disadvantages. I think that
most would agree that the products are well engineered, well made and
backed by BMW and Dinan. I would also say that these products bundle
well together and are staged to meet the various performance goals of
the customer. All of this, however, comes at a high price. I would
argue as would others on the digest that some products offer little or
no performance gain. On the other hand other products get good reviews.
For example, on the digest people definitely favor the JimC performance
chips and rip the Dinan chips while I have as yet to hear people
seriously complain about the suspension mods (except the price).

For the real tech heads in this digest we are always going to look for
the unique and UUC type modifications that focus your car to a more
specific performance gain. Dinan is great for the less technical with
lots of $$$ who walk into the show room and want the package and have it
done for them.

The best analogy is like when you were in school and some folks bought
stereo equipment from the same vendor as a packaged integrated system
(same speakers, tape deck, turn table, amp, etc). Others were like me
where I mixed and matched trying to put together the best elements I
could find and keep them balanced (a good stereo is only as good as the
worst component).

A lot of people like to rip Dinan but they have a huge market and there
are lots of people out there who do not want to take the time or have
the inclination to open the hood and figure this stuff out. I also have
never heard a complaint from anyone who has gotten behind the wheel of a
fully prepared stage III Dinan M3.
