84 318i making drivetrain noise

My 84 318i is making (what I think is) drivetrain noise. It sounds like
the car has snow tires on the back (it has new Continentals) I plan to
drive the car 1,000 miles to Ohio to give it to my daughter in college.
Is this a problem that should concern me or is it normal for a car with
150,000?
