squeeky steering wheel

Do you have tilt wheel? If so its possibly the thumb wheel behind the
lower bolster on the steering column that holds the tilt lever in
place. Tighten it. It can allow the steering column to move move
forward and rub on the collars. Pull the steering column firmly and
then tighten this thumb wheel/bolt. It could also be the copper
grease that lubricates all of the moving parts needs to be reapplied.
Its hard to do yourself. There may be special safety torx screws that
hold the airbag cover/horn on from behind. If you go for it,
disconnect the battery so the SRS light doesn't come on when you
unplug the airbag. Make sure you have your radios security code since
it will have to be reprogrammed.

Subject: <E36> Annoying steering wheel noise
Hello Everyone!
Over the past fews day my steering wheel on my 1993 318is has
developed a very annoying squeeking noise whenever I turn corners.
From time to time,I can even hear the noise when I go over bumps!
The dealership said I have to take off the steering wheels and grease
the something behind the wheel (but he didn;t recommend I do it myself
since I have airbags)?!? Could anyone please give me some advice on
solving this problem?
Thanks
Kwok
