BMW NA and roundels

For those of you that think a roundel on something like a digest decal
is going to be below the radar, you're wrong.

BMW NA spends an amazing amount of time searching for inappropriate uses
of the roundel, and follows them up quickly with very stern legal letters,
and follows those up with rapid legal action.

I edit the newsletter of the NJ Chapter. Several times over the last few
years an advertiser has included either a roundel or a photo of a product
with a roundel and has told me that they have had letters and lawyer visits
within hours of when the newsletter came out.

BMW wants roundels on nothing but cars, and they appear very serious about it.

On the other hand, one of the allowed uses of the roundel is within a
BMW CCA chapter logo. The approved chapter logo guidelines, which is
a 4-page document, specifies that there are three sections to a standard
logo. An icon or graphic depicting something about the chapter or its
location, the textual name of the chapter in a specific font, and the
roundel. Each section is divided by a line of a specific width.

The national BMW CCA logo is a perfect example of this.
