I had my side skirts repainted when I bought my 95 318is.  They had some
paint defect, really can't remember right now, but the body shop had to
strip it down to bare then apply some sort of application the 3M had.  This
is the rough appearance that the skirts have.  Then the paint is applied,
what ever color you want.  The job came out excellent!  Looks just like it
was from the factory, even today.
