The gap of the spark should face right between the two intake valves.

On a hight tech German engine, especially the multivalve heads, there is
enough
turbulance in the chamber that -practically- it doesnt make too much
sence to worry
about gap positioning.

Then again my E36 M3 has 4 electrodes and I dont have to worry about
this problem.

On ultra low consumption engines getting 60-100mpg,
spark gap location is very significant.
