Re: bmw-digest V9 #587

     John,

Well, I guess it all comes down to the skill of the body shop who
do the painting. When I bought my car from the dealer, I asked them
to paint all the lower front/back bumpers and side skits to the same
body color. And they do come out great!
BTW, is anybody know how to tell whether the car has the coded
driveaway protection system installed? I think they came out sometime
in '95. Someone from the dealer once told me to check the color of
the diode on the car key. If its yellow light then it has the
     security feature. Is that true?

Peter, I definitely agree that the skill of the bodyshop makes a big
difference. I live in Cincinnati and had my car painted at a well
established place that only does "high end" luxury cars. Among these were
Reggie Sanders (Cincinnati Red's player... or was...) BMW 850 and Pete
Rose's Porsche 911. I had to pay a lot more but the paint job was worth it.
The car looks awesome now! If you want to see the end result you can check

I have found tint shops to be the same way. I had to go into a rather rough
area downtown to get mine done.... a little more expensive but that's where
the guys that know it best are. :-) As for the coded drive-away protection
but if I remember hearing correctly on the digest awhile back it was on all
cars 1/95 or newer. Maybe somebody will back me up on that or correct me....

John
