<All>Winter Tire Suggestions?!

I'm looking to buy some steel rims and winter tires for my mom's MBZ.  
And if it works, perhaps use them on my car, 328.  Anyways, I remember 
hearing things about winter tires on the digest but I'm not sure if 
there was a consensus to which tire (brand) was a good one to go with.  
I was planning on ordering from Discount Tire Direct...anyone ever do 
business with them?  Any BMWCCA discounts?
