There should be a metal tag (about 2" by 1/2") on the rear
of the differential case which identifies the gear ratio.
If the ratio designation is preceeded by an "S", it is a
limited slip unit.  This is true for my E34 though I can't
verify the same for E36 units.  Can anybody verify?
