Fellow digesters,
FWIW, I just wanted to pass on some good info. The chin dam on my
540 is pretty chipped up and there was also a fairly large scratch on
the plastic rocker panel piece below the driver's door. While wandering
through PEP boys (no I don't have a life) I stumbled onto a product
named 'Scratch Remover GS27'. Has anyone had any experience with this
stuff? Anyway, I bought a tube and gave it a try today. Lo and behold,
it actually worked! I'm impressed! I decided to try it on the plastic
first because I figured that would be the least visible area if it
screwed anything up. It 'removed' the chips and scratches on the chin
dam with great results. I moved on to the rocker panel and it took care
of that scratch also. It's obviously an abrasive and reminds me of
DuPont #7 Polishing Compound. The label says it contains petrolium
distillates. Tomorrow I will probably try it on a scratch on one of the
rear doors to see how it works with a metal substrate. I expect it will
work just fine. As always YMMV
