E30 M3 muffler clamps

It was mentioned on the digest a few weeks ago that VW makes a 45.5mm
muffler clamps that will work with the M3 exhaust.  Can someone tell me
what VW model and year these 45.5mm clamps came on and exactly how to
install them?   From just looking at the existing clamps, and I can't
figure out how they are installed.  Do they require a special crimping
tool?  Or do the BMW clamps come with an existing crimp that just needs
to be tightened down when they are installed? Any info on the subject
would be much appreciated.  Thanks.
