Longevity of tires?

I've got a set of Pirelli Winters (195 60 R14) that were purchased in 1990.
 Due to an unfortunate accident, there was no longer a car that these tires
would fit.  Would these still be useable now or are these just suitable for
the dump?  I'm considering getting a E30 325i that I'd like to put these on
for the winter.
