Re: Ripoff at Shelly BMW

Isn't it a violation of Digest policy to post personal
disagreements/misunderstandings/anger with a business to the BMW-Digest?
The BMW Digest home page includes the following paragraph under the heading
of "Appropriateness of Postings" --

"There are representatives of a number of businesses dealing with BMW
products on this digest. It is entirely possible that there are list members
who are unhappy with these businesses for one reason or another. The digest
is not an appropriate venue for such discussions; there is simply no way
that these matters can ever be satisfactorily resolved in such a contest --
so don't start."

Having dealt with Kevin Hite and Shelly BMW, I can understand the digest
policy. This type of flame cannot be satisfactorily rebutted in a public
fight on the digest.

Nevertheless I feel a need to respond. I personally know of several
satisfied customers of Kevin Hite and Shelly BMW and I don't know of anyone
that has not had a positive experience dealing with him. He doesn't "play
games" when negotiating a deal. Furthermore, he is an active supporter of
the L. A. Chapter of the BMW CCA as well as a true enthusiast, he regularly
participates in driving events (high performance driving schools and
auto-Xs). If he gets a business benefit from his support and driving
activities, more power to him. He has fun and the chapter benefits. I've
been at driving events he's participated in and he doesn't even tell people
he's a BMW salesman. He's just there to have fun, just like the rest of us!

I also find it distressing that all the responses to the original post
assumed it was factually accurate and joined in the condemnation of Kevin
and Shelly BMW. If the original poster told us he thought the Ford Falcon
was the best car ever built would that be accepted as fact? In re-reading
the original post I'm more inclined to believe the unsophisticated buyer
didn't know what he had agreed to or had a case of buyer's remorse. His
friend, the poster, seems to have accepted the buyer's version of what
happened. The way the buyer was described in a later post by the original
poster, I wouldn't be surprised to find the $2,200 supposedly added to the
price was sales tax (which would be the tax on a $28,000+ purchase at Shelly
BMW).

I don't for a minute believe that my comments will change the original
poster's view of life and Shelly BMW. Indeed, based upon history, I expect
a retort -- which won't change my mind. I think all it will do is prove
Richard is correct. Bottom line, I recommend we all accept the digest
policy. As Richard said: The digest is not an appropriate venue for such
discussions; there is simply no way that these matters can ever be
satisfactorily resolved in such a contest..."
