The key to safe parking?
Always park in a corner stall with a curb on the right side of your car. 
This is the side that the driver would exit from, there by halfing (no
statistical analysis, please) your odds of being hit by a door.
Judge the cars:  If there are no lone spots and the choice lies between
parking next to a Kia or a Cadillac, go with the Kia as there doors are
about half as long.
Also wise to avoid any cars the have evidence of child (read careless[age
discrimination thread anyone?]) passengers. 
Not to mention cars with disabled plates, as the drivers may require more
space to exit.

Observe.  Think.  Park
