535is vs. M535i vs. M5

             there is a 1985 M535i for sale in my area, car has 169k miles
and is in good condition, repainted about 3 years ago. car was purchased
6 years ago from original owner who bought the car in germany  and all
the interior controls are in german. what is the difference between this car
and a 1985 535is and the difference between a 1985 M5. is $5,000 a good
deal  for this or is it a moneypit. the car will be used for transportation
for
my daughter in about 1 year and I thought that this would be a nice car to
restore to excellent conditon for her and she can gain some knowledge
about BMW and auto repair. any help on this would be greatly appreciated
as the car may be for sale much longer.
