Cold idle problem, please help!

Hi All!

My '86 320i starts every morning right away, allthough it's parked outdoors,
and weather isn't that nice anymore... The problem is that right after the
engine runs (and only when cold) rpm drops to about 350. I have to keep it
running at 2000 rpm for about 10 seconds (and i have to do this quickly
because otherwise it stalls) and after that all is fine, but during this
period it runs very rough, and is producing a lot of (white) smoke. What
could be the problem? The smoke disappears after the engine is somewhat
warmer, and doe not tend to grow in volume when accelerating, so i'll guess
it's just condens. Checking oil and coolant level periodic confirms that...
Any help appreciated,
TIA
