check the central lock FAQ for your locking system.. one place is at
ftp://ftp.doe.carleton.ca/pub/chrisp/bmw/central.lock.faq or
ftp://ftp.doe.carleton.ca/pub/chrisp/bmw/central.lock.pdf

how about body mounts ? ever had them changed ? mileage about 100k miles ?
pull the rear seat out (just the bottom) - pull up and out.. get someone
to sit back there as you drive around over bumps (to get it clunking)
and get them to feel the top of the mounts..
OR jack up the car and stick a pry bar between subframe and body.. if it
can be moved the body mounts are shot
no really a DIY... costs $50x2 + ~3 hours labour at a dealer

common E30 problem.. pull out the instrument cluster (see FAQs or Bentley)
and tighten the nut that holds the temp gauge (and fuel gauge).. it is also
the GROUND connection for the gauge and when it gets loose weird things
happen
