Subject: E46 Universal Transmitter Installation
Hello Fellow Enthusiasts!!
I'm sorry for the longish post. Please fast forward if needed. Last night
I installed a Universal Transmitter (garage door opener) in my new 1999 E46
323iA. It was very easy. Here's how I did it in case any of you other
E46ers out there want to do it too.
The parts: The Universal Transmitter (pn 82-11-1-470-125). I paid $145
including shipping from the BMW Store, 800-543-1649. But you may want to
check around more at your favorite parts purveyors. That's it!! No other
parts needed. When you open it up and read the directions you'll thin >>
~~ I bought mine for my 99' 323 from Hendrick BMW (advertise in STAR). They
charged me only $120 for the Universal Transmitter, and additionally only
charged me $220 for the $300 BMW Alarm Kit for the new E-46. Boy, does that
car do neat stuff when you have the alarm.
~~Downside. I had the dealer install the Universal Transmitter. Charged me $35
labor.
Alarm System: charged me 1.50 hrs. labor, or $105.00. It was worth it. It took
them 2.0 hours in reality.
