<E36> Air Conditioning Cut Out

Anybody know the specifications for the air conditioning cut out switch
on late model E36 ///M3s?  Seemingly without regard to RPM, mine starts
blowing hot air around 85 m.p.h. and then starts working fine again
around 70 m.p.h.  I thought the cut-out was related to an RPM threshold,
but it seems to cut-out no matter how slowly you get up to higher
speeds.  Thanks.
