<E30> To Get Gas, or To Not Get Gas

I have a '90 325iX, and the gas guage seems to drop towards empty
to quickly.  I look up in the manual and it is supposed to have a
16 or so gallon tank, but the gauge reads empty when I have only
used about 10 gallons.  This has happened since I have owned the
car (about 3 months).  I have checked in Bentley and not found
a diagnostic section for this problem.  Any suggestions?
