<28> 535i rev limit

Greetings - have a twofold questions for tech types. My '86 535i is rev-limiting
itself at about 5600 rpm or so (seems to cut revs between 5500 and 6000 rpm).
I never get to redline in any event. I'm concerned that there may be something
wrong. I don't recall this happening before removal and replacement of an ECU
(geez.. I hope there wasn't an aftermarket chip in it!) What is the factory rev
limiter on this car?
Second, does anybody have the BOSCH part number (the one listed on the outside
of the ECU) for this models ECU? I want to check and make sure that the used ECU
that was installed is the right one for this model. I understand that ECUs from a
7 series and perhaps others can be used, but I am wondering if that changes the
engine management or motronic 'mapping' and would give me less performance.
Any comments or am I worrying about something not important?
Thanks....replies to the digest or privately as you please.
