524TD Injection Pump Help

For a net impaired friend...

...he has a 524TD whch needs an injection pump. List is $1489 for ths pump!!!
Can you put a note out on the digest on my behalf asking for ideas from anyone
with 524 Turbo Diesel experience if the  injection pump typically can be
rebuilt and for names of places that can do the rebuild? My brother's mechanic
is brain-dead on it.
