Tire pressure quest.

Hi,

I have a 97 328i with 17" MK Motorsports
rims all around.  I have 235/40/17 Nitto tires.
While washing my car this weekend, to my
disdain, I found that my front wheel is
slightly bent.  I plan on fixing that at some
point, but my question is: can tire pressure
reduce the chances of this happening again?

Is following the tire mfg's pressure recommendations
the best thing to do?  Discount Tire had made the
pressure a little lower (I don't know PSI offhand) 
in order to give a softer ride.
