E28 M30 M535i(European) vs 535i(US)

Question, does  anyone know anything about the M535i M30 engine parts.
My limited knowledge says that they had 218hp vs 181hp(US).  This hp was
gotten by what means?

Is the exhaust manifold bigger with freer flowing bends?
Is the cam different?
Is there a cat. on these cars?
Is the DME differnt for more hp?

Any help would be appreciated.
