E30 325i 'stalling'

Hi everyone,

A curious problem for you all. When I pull away from a standstill, my car
momentarily hesitates as if it is going to stall, and then picks up and goes
OK. This makes pulling out of junctions literally a hit-or-miss affair. Does
anyone have any ideas of what could be causing this?

P.S It seems worse when the car is cold.
