RE: BMW CCA NCC License Plates in VA?
Mike A. asks about the procedure for obtaining a NCC BMW CCA plate in Virginia, as the MD members recently did.
Virginia currently has 148 special interest plates authorized for registered automobiles. The VA DMV web page displays them. It even lets you search for personalized (vanity) plates. For kicks try their web page: www.dmv.state.va.us/
I contacted the VA DMV for info on how to get a special interest plate for the NCC of the BMW CCA. I received the following:
***********
DMV currently issues license plates that are legislatively approved through the VA. General Assembly. Please be advised that all entities currently represented in Va. with a special plate followed the following procedures in order to see their plate design come into production.
1. Contact the state delegate from your area, and have him/her sponsor a bill before the legislature authorizing the Commissioner of the Department of Motor Vehicles to offer that plate.
2. Once the law is passed, a sponsor will be appointed, and that sponsor will have to accumulate 350 prepaid applications for the plate, and submit them to DMV. Then production can begin on the plate.
It does seem to be a daunting process, but as you can see from the number of special plates we already offer, it can be done. Good luck.

So... do we have any Virginia state delegates or delegate staffers here? So that we appear somewhat organized, perhaps the NCC officers should take the initial steps to establish the "official" BMW CCA NCC plate in Virginia. We'll need 350 prepaid applications after the bill is passed. The fees tend to be $25 in addition to the normal annual fee.
