<E28> to stud or not to stud

Winter driving in Colorado does have it's moments. However, I like to avoid them
if possible. I would like the collective wisdom of the various digesters that have
run an E28 year round as a daily driver in winter conditions (snow, ice, dry
pavement, etc..)
I frankly would not run a 535i without studs at all four wheels in the
wintertime. The biggest drawback is of course dry weather or dry pavement
handling. How do you feel an E28 handles with studs? I feel the opposite, that is,
improved snow and especially ice traction, is more than worth the drawback. I'm
not in a position, most of the time, to leave this car at home, as I make my living
with it seeing clients.
I have a friend, however, who does not agree, and since this is his first winter
with an E28, I told him I would gather your wisdom to see if there was any
consensus. BTW, his solution would be Blizzacks and 15" wheels, not one that I
care for. Any comments? What do you do? What do you think of our differing
viewpoints? Email me privately or post on the digest for all to see.
