E30 Tranny Output Flange Torque

Hey folks,
I'm in the middle of rebuilding my sloppy shifter, and have a question
about the necessary torque for reinstalling the 30mm nut that holds the
tranny output flange to the tranny.
The Bentley manual says to torque it to ~120 ft-lbs (can't remember the
exact number now). However, when I removed it last night, I could almost
do so with my fingers, and barely required a wrench. Yes, the copper
lock ring was still in place, so I know nothing was out of place.
Could the Bently manual be wrong? Could it be they meant to
say inch-lbs (instead of ft-lbs). Could I have read it wrong?
Does anyone know the proper torque setting for this item? If it
is indeed 120 ft-lbs, why was mine so loose?
TIA,
Norm
