<E34> Headliner Cleaning or Replacing Questions

My recently purchased '89 525i, which has a very saggy and soiled gray
headliner, needs help!  The previous owner obviously tried to steam
clean the fabric thus causing the cloth to separate from the foam (?)
backing.  I also believe that in an attempt to repair the sagging, some
kind of adhesive was sprayed (thru small slits) under the headliner to
bond it to its backing.  The adhesive has turned the gray cloth a most
"organic" shade of brown and has failed to hold a bond.  Should I try to
have it professionally cleaned and re-bonded or just "bite the bullet" and
replace the headliner.  If I have to replace, how big a bullet should I
be prepared to ingest?
