Re: Tires for 8.5 x 17 wheels on 95M3

Dear Digest members,

I recently purchased 8.5 x 17 wheels for my 95 M3. I would like to put
Yokohama AO32 Rs on these wheels but am unsure whether I am better off
going with 235/40/17s or 255/40/17s. Unfortunately, Yokohama does not
make a 245/40/17 since this would probably be the ideal tire. I do know 
that Michelin has told tire rack to advise people to put the 255s on
the stock rear wheels on 96/97 M3s when they have a shortage of the 245 
tires, so they work OK on the rears (with rolled wheel wells). The wheel
manufacturer says either tire will fit on the rims, but I am unsure
whether 255s all around will cause problems with the wheel wells under
track conditions and additionally how it might affect the handling in the
fronts. If anyone has information that would speak to this issue, I would
be grateful.
