Dealer is wrong - the "white thingie" is in there.  Now if you want to save
some money at the cost of some time, you can pull the white thingie apart,
take out the little circuit board with the two little 5 volt incandescent
bulbs, buy some replacements at Radio Shack, and unsolder the old ones and
solder in new.  It's you choice, the bulbs themselves may be about $2.00.
But then again, I might be a maroon baboon <insert burp here>
